Health and Nutrition Initiatives
The trust’s efforts in health and nutrition address the critical issue of under nutrition among Indian children, as highlighted by statistics from the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). According to these estimates, 20% of children under five in India suffer from wasting due to acute under nutrition, with India hosting over one-third of the world’s wasted children. Additionally, 43% of Indian children under five are underweight, and 48%—totalling 61 million—are stunted due to chronic under nutrition, making India home to three out of every ten stunted children globally.
To combat this, Shivshakti Charitable Trust organized two nutrition awareness camps between 2019 and 2024, engaging 400 women and children. These camps provided essential education and resources, focusing on vulnerable populations such as scheduled tribes, where 28% of children suffer from wasting. The camps aimed to equip participants with knowledge to address both acute and chronic under nutrition, particularly in rural areas where the issue is more prevalent.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shivshakti Charitable Trust extended support to 20 economically disadvantaged families by distributing free dry rations and relief kits. This initiative was crucial in mitigating the socioeconomic challenges faced by poor families, whose income sources were disrupted. Concurrently, the trust conducted awareness campaigns to educate the community on preventive measures, empowering them to protect their health during the crisis.
